It is really sneaking up on us. Despite the blistering days of summer we're experiencing here in middle Tennessee, it's not too soon to be thinking about fall and one of the biggest events in our area- the Heartwalk. The place; Vanderbilt University, the corner of 25th and Children's Way. The time: 8am, October 2nd.
It is THE PREMIERE event for the AHA (American Heart Association.) The walk is designed to raise funds and to recognize and celebrate the incredible progress in fighting heart disease. This country's number one and number three killers are heart disease and stroke, but we know we have the tools today to reduce our risks, if we just practice a few steps. On the heart association's web site, you'll find Life's Simple 7: get active, eat better, lose weight, stop smoking, control cholesterol, manage your blood pressure and reduce your blood sugar. Read more about improving your heart health on their web site and on ours.
Back to the HeartWalk. The goal of the event is to raise $1,350,000. So far, donations have totaled 613,731-not bad! If you haven't signed up, there's still time. Just give Stephanie Lowe a call at 340-4117 or go to start!nashville@heart.org. It's only 9 weeks from this Saturday. So start walking and ladies, "Go Red!"
