Each year more than 650 thousand Americans find out they have heart failure. Most of the time, this comes on slowly, with the heart muscle weakening. That makes the heart have to work harder to keep blood circulating throughout the body.
Symptoms include shortness of breath, even during mild activity; weight gain with swelling in the legs and ankles from fluid retention; difficulty breathing when lying down and overall fatigue and weakness.
If you are concerned about heart failure, you have an opportunity next week to learn more about it and how it's being treated at St. Thomas Heart when a free seminar will be held. It's scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th, from 6 until 8 pm at St. Thomas Hospital. Experts will discuss heart failure symptoms and treatment. This will take place in conference dining rooms A and B and again, it is free. All you need to do is call so they know you're coming. The RSVP line is 615-284-LIFE (select option 3).
We hope you will take advantage of this program at St. Thomas Heart. Don't feel like there isn't hope. Come and find out more for you or your loved one.
