Heart Summit

Ok, I'm getting out the bullhorn and shouting from the rooftops;  Have I got a deal for you.  If you want to protect your heart, and who doesn't, there's a free summit next week, Feb. 16th,  at Saint Thomas Hospital on Harding Road in Nashville.  There's quite a line-up of cardiac surgeons who will be speaking to the public on everything from heart valve disease to heart failure  and the latest techniques to treat these conditions.  Diet and exercise experts will also be part of the program, talking about better choices when it comes to food and the best exercise options to get folks on the road to a heart healthy life.  All you need to do is call and make a reservation at 284-LIFE.

The other event is a free cooking demonstration at Baptist Hospital on February 24th.  Not only do you learn how to make the heart healthy dishes, but you get to taste the food.  Just call 800-588-3270 to reserve your spot at this cooking school.

Why go?  One big reason could be this; 20 thousand Tennesseans will die this year from heart disease.  That's just unacceptable.  There are so many ways to prevent heart disease in the first place.  Know your risk factors, watch your diet, exercise, don't smoke and have regular check-ups.  Nancy Brown, the Chief Executive Officer of the American Heart Association in Dallas made a very scary comment recently....and I quote, "Unhealthy behaviors and unhealthy environments have contributed to a tidal wave of risk factors among Americans.  Early intervention and evidence-based public policies are absolute musts to significantly reduce alarming rates of obesity, hypertension, tobacco use and cholesterol levels."  We've got to get a handle on this situation.

Another fact from the AHA;  nearly four in ten American adults believe they have ideal heart health (39%) Only 1% actually do. But the good news is that up to 80% of cardiovascular disease may be prevented through HEALTHY LIVING!

Please don't wait until it's too late and you've already had a problem. Heart disease can be so devestating and debilitating. Take the bull by the horns and take charge of your health.  Tackle it like you do your job. Set a good example for your children.  Get moving, incorporate some healthier foods into your diet and notice the difference in how you feel.  Start today!
