What do Barbara Walters, funny men David Letterman, Robin Williams and former President Bill Clinton all have in common? They're all survivors of this country's number one killer-heart disease. Tonight we get to hear from all of them in Ms. Walter's "A Matter of Life & Death" special on ABC at 10 pm, 9 central (channel 2 in Nashville). If you can't be home to watch it, you may want to fire up the DVR or VCR to make sure you get to hear from these celebrities and a former president about their personal experiences with heart disease and heart surgery. We're used to David Letterman's wise cracks and funny interviews on his "Late Show with David Letterman" but tonight he has a serious message for viewers, advising them to take advantage of today's technology to prevent and treat heart disease, saying, "There's no reason why a man or woman, in this day and age, should drop dead unexpectedly from heart disease." Other guests of Walter's include Regis Philbin and Charlie Rose, who have also experienced heart surgery.
Of course the special airs during February when the American Heart Association promotes heart health. Today is national wear red day, in case you haven't already noticed! All the female morning news anchors on ABC, NBC and CBS wore red this morning:) and even many buildings in various cities, including Nashville, will be sporting red lights in their windows tonight to spread the word about heart disease and prevention.
Macy's has also been running ads in the newspaper, promoting its discounts on merchandise for shoppers wearing red so if you're headed out today, there's another good reason to "Go Red!"
And please tune in Monday night (Feb. 7th) to watch Medical Monday on Newschannel 5 Plus with Kristin Priesol. Saint Thomas cardiologist Ann Jackson will take your questions and yours truly will join the ladies to talk about heart month and what we can all do to keep our hearts healthy and strong for years to come!
