I heard the promos this morning and I made a note to watch Dr. Oz today. The teaser was how to prevent heart disease in 28 days. As a spokesperson for this web site, I just had to see it. If you didn't watch, I can tell you it was a wonderful program. He has such a great way of delivering information in a way that's easy to understand. Today it was straight to the point; what to do to reduce your risk of dying from the nation's number one killer.
Dr. Oz brought out three women who have either had a heart attack, (one when she was only 32), have a family history of the disease or other risk factors like high blood pressure. His advice included taking 2 baby aspirin before bedtime with a full glass of water, using flaxseed oil in your oatmeal in the morning and also eating a diet high in vegetables and fruit. He stressed the importance of making your vegetable the bigger portion of your dinner plate with meat being like a side dish.
Other pointers included stretching for 10 minutes in the morning, and trying to walk up and down the stairs seven minutes a day. Stress is another intangible when it comes to heart disease. Dr. Oz emphasized we need to reduce our levels of stress by making sure we have social interaction with friends at least once a week. I know that when I get together with girlfriends, we always have a few good laughs and you know that makes you feel better by releasing those good endorphins! Strong relationships just help us feel better and stay healthier. The good doctor also told his audience that having sex is another way to stay heart healthy!
Since Dr. Oz's family is from Turkey, he also talked about the benefits of a Mediterranean diet. To really get details on this important program, I suggest you check out his web site for more information and ask your own doctor what's best for your situation.
We really need to put our hearts into our own hands because heart disease is one of the most preventable diseases out there. We can change our risk of heart disease by making these changes and most of them really aren't hard to do. Dr. Oz is challenging his viewers to give it a go and I know we can do it:)
