There are three events on my radar screen this morning when it comes to heart health and all should be a ball. First one is tonight in Murfreesboro from 6-9 pm at the Athletic Club and it's all about dancing your heart away! Go Red For Women and Zumba Fitness have joined forces to create Party Hearty, a series of hundreds of Zumba sessions across the nation. 75 percent of the ticket fee and 30 percent of limited edition Party Hearty Zumbawear product sale prices will benefit the American Heart Association's Go Red Por Tu Corazon movement. That's part of the Go Red for Women movement. The second one will be February 26th from 9am-12pm at the Community Christian Day School in Smyrna. At last count, the Party Hearty homepage showed more than 183 thousand dollars raised across the country so far! Check out the website for more info; http://www.partyhearty.org.
I'm not going to be able to go to either of the zumba events but I do dance at the classes offered at the YMCA fairly often and love them! If you haven't tried this, don't be intimidated. Alot of women tell me they want to zumba but they aren't coordinated and can't dance very well. Don't worry about it. As long as you're moving, you're getting a workout. When I leave these classes, I am dripping wet. Our instructor says you can burn from 6 hundred to around 9 hundred calories in an hour class. Now that's some exercise ladies:) But besides tightening your derriere
there's a very important fact to consider. Exercise can raise your HDL or good cholesterol. The last time mine was checked, my HDL was the highest it's ever been and that, I attribute, to Zumba.
If you love art and jazz, you'll want to catch the American Heart Association's Heart and Soul Benefit. That's tomorrow night (Feb. 19th) at the Lofts at Werthan Mills in Nashville from 7pm to 11pm. There will be wine tasting, home tours and a late night soiree for nearly 5-hundred guests. Of course it also benefits the AHA. Tickets are 50 dollars in advance at Nashvilleheartandsoul.com or 65 dollars at the door. The location is 1400 Rose L. Parks Blvd. in Germantown. Doesn't that sound like a blast?
A friend of mine in Chicago just sent me a text with a picture of "Go Red" projected on the floor of the Palmer House Hotel. She was excited about the movement really spreading around the country and knows my involvement with the mission. It's so gratifying to see the support from individuals as well as businesses. The more we "Go Red," I hope the LESS we hear about women and men dying from and being forever affected by heart disease.
Have a great weekend everyone.
